Online Security

Security is very important to us at Praize that's why we take every precaution to make sure that you and your information stay secure.

Being secure online is a two way street, this means that you need to take an active part in being safe and secure too.

We believe that if we both take part in following some easy to use guidelines we can minimize risks to Praize and its members.

Passwords

Your password is your to know and no one to find out. It is the key to your valuable information, like your house key. You may think it is okay to make a copy of your house key to give to a close friend, but who is to stop that friend from making copies of their own and sharing them with others, who may also make copies. See how easy it is to be invaded? Invasion may just be someone stealing your information, but it also mean someone posing as you and committing fraud in your name.

Long passwords are harder for others to figure out, and remember that you are not bound to only using letters, random letter and number combinations are also very hard to crack. Birthdays, names and other obvious things about yourself are not wise when choosing a password.

Change you password often, especially if you think someone may have gotten a hold of it.

You hold the key, this is why your password needs to be easy for you to remember. No one should ever ask for your password, not even us, police or any other person posing as an authority figure, the best con artists will actually research information about you and can sound very convincing when asking for your password. Remember that if someone does ask never give it out.

Know your computer. Your computer's operating system may have special features where it will remember passwords for you, others who know computers well can easily find out this information, especially if you use a shared computer or network.

It is always a good idea to use different passwords for different accounts, if someone may figure out your online password lets hope it isn't your house alarm or bank pin numbers.

If you do forget your Praize password you will have to ask for another one. We store your passwords encrypted so even we will not know it, therefore we can not send you your original password, a new one will be emailed to your alternate email address listed in your Praize profile. This is why it is wise not to use your Praise email address as your alternate one, because without a password you cannot log in to receive your new one. Once you retrieve your new address you can change it right away in your profile.

Computer con artists are very sneaky. They can mask email addresses and send you messages posing as loved ones, friends or even someone from Praize. Always be on your toes, and make positively sure that you know who you are conversing with before any personal information is given. I don't know about you but I would find it weird if a friend began asking for my banking information.

Scams are every where, some sites pose as legit services that ask for really detailed information, they may even pose as a well known site to you. Once you enter in your information they have it and will most likely use it to their benefit.

Viruses, Spyware & Adware
Make sure you use anti-virus software. There are many kinds of viruses, some are meant to harm your programs, adware viruses exist to constantly flash advertising in your face (if this sounds all to familiar you may have adware on your computer right now), and spyware viruses exists to gather information you put into your computer. There are many viruses out there that can inhabit your computer and send any information it uses with someone else without you even knowing it. Keep your anti-virus programs up to date, new ones spring up all the time.

Spyware and adware disguise themselves very well. They are usually installed through email viruses, or installed when you download programs you find on the net. Many people find interesting programs on the net, download and install it, the program does what it says it will do, but it sneaks in a spyware program that you have no idea about. You may voluntarily but unintentionally install spyware or adware while surfing the Web. Often times, spyware or adware appears to be corrective software or a special plug-in that will help you view a site. Make sure you trust other who use your computer for they may unintentionally install spyware behind your back.

Make sure you know what programs you are installing, where they come from and who created the program, is it from a trustworthy source? Also, know your computer's security settings and find out how to use them.

Talking to strangers
Mom always said, "Don't talk to strangers" because she wanted you to be safe from harm. Even at a mature stage in life it is important know who it is that you are talking to online. Praize has a very active chat system, interactive forums, email, etc. for people to converse with others. Our members say safe by following common sense rules. You don't have to avoid everyone unknown to you, just be smart about it. Those that aim to hurt you can pose are friends, and generally nice people with similar interests.

It is your choice to chat with others, it is also your choice to be smart.
