Canyon Racer Instructions:
The goal is to get to the end of the canyon, turn around, and get back. On the way, you should be trying to shoot as many of the red and black canyon beetles as you can.

Fly the ship by using the left and right arrow keys to turn left and right. Use the up arrow key to turn on your thrusters which push you forward. The spacebar will fire a bullet. The A and Z key will change your altitude.

You get 1,000 points for every canyon beetle you hit. If you complete the game quickly enough, you will also get a speed bonus. The maximum speed bonus is 50,000 points if you finish the game in less than 2:30. You score is then multiplied by your shooting accuracy (hits/shoots) to get your final score.

Tips: Fly low. Use the Z key to lower your altitude all the way. This gives you a better chance at hitting the beetles. You gun fires ahead and slightly downward. You have to time your shots very carefully or they will strike the ground to early or too late. The floor of the canyon is uneven. You altitude will adjust as the floor goes up and down. While you are flying over steep areas, it will be very hard to make accurate shots. Don't waste bullets: this will lower your final score. Also, hitting teh walls of the canyon will not damage your ship, but it will slow you down.

Improving 3D game performance
We're very sorry, but if you do not have a good machine with a 3D video card and either DirectX 7 or OpenGL, then this game will not perform very well. This is true of all action-based 3D games.

If you have a 3D card you still need DirectX or OpenGL. If you are using a Windows machine, we recommend getting DirectX 8 from Microsoft. If you are using a Mac, then OpenGL is what you want. Both are free.
